Republican Sen. John McCain is being compared to a Harry Potter character following his shocking vote against the “skinny repeal,” a watered-down version of a failed GOP bill meant to take down Obamacare.
McCain, who recently announced he has brain cancer, had given little indication he’d vote no alongside just two other Republicans, Sens. Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski early Friday morning. (By the way those other senators were fearlessly battling the bill long before McCain made his shocking turn.)
Huh. Kind of sounds familiar. Who else in our history has looked like a bad guy, but kind of ended up helping everyone out? After the Senate flew into a tizzy, actor and Twitter master George Takei drew an interesting connection between McCain and Severus Snape from the Harry Potter franchise.
So, are we basically saying now that Senator McCain is Severus Snape?

If you’re thinking “What?! John McCain is NOTHING like our beloved Snape. How dare he!,” just hear him out, people.
See, everyone thought Snape was a pure evil Death Eater who may have done some nice things along the way. But no, that wasn’t the case. He was just hopelessly trying to protect Harry, and was actually against Voldemort the whole time.
Everyone thought McCain was going to help pass the “skinny repeal,” a bill which would have left 16 million additional people without health care and driven premiums up by 20 percent a year, according to the Congressional Budget Office. But he wasn’t!
If you still don’t quite see the connection, you’re not alone. People on Twitter weren’t so convinced, and were even a little offended by the thought. McCain still wants to repeal Obamacare, remember, just not this way.
John McCain is not Severus Snape. Stop it. He’s not a hero. He’s not THE hero. Stop it.

God no. Snape was working for the good guys all along. McCain still wants to strip healthcare from millions, just with a different bill.

Still, others saw the connection, and were into the comparison.
John McCain is our very own Severus Snape

If there’s any lesson to take from this week, it’s that John McCain is officially the Severus Snape of the Trump era.

Whether you see the connection or not, you have to admit, it did make for one hell of a show.
