In the immortal words of RuPaul, “We’re born naked and the rest is drag.”
While a wise statement on the nature of gender, the quote could just as easily be a sartorial summary of Lady Gaga.
Having played with gender her whole career, it only makes sense that the musician would appear on the new season of RuPaul’s Drag Race to lip-sync for her life.
Thanks to a sneaky Twitter preview, we now know that on the series’ March 24 return, Gaga and RuPaul prank the contestants into thinking she’s just a really, really talented Lady Gaga impersonator.
Yes, Lady Gaga does a drag Lady Gaga routine. She even does the obligatory piece-to-camera interview as a male contestant called “Ronnie.” Please bring back Jo Calderone, Gaga. This guy doesn’t even have facial hair.
Captured at VH1’s new season premiere party, the scene shows the contestants, stunned when they figure out it’s actually Lady Gaga, after about half a second.
RuPaul also appeared on Good Morning America to chat about Gaga’s surprise visit. “She [Lady Gaga] tweeted me several years ago, but it took this long to get the schedules together,” the supermodel of the entire world said.
“She’s on the show opener. It is so much fun, everyone is going to love it … She started in New York City clubs, like myself, she started around drag queens and the downtown culture so she felt right at home.”
Sashay Gaga; you stay.
