The world first learned about the existence of Tinder Select earlier this year, but details have been hard to come by. Until now.
Thankfully, Business Insider reporter managed to wrangle himself entrance into dating’s most exclusive club. And what he uncovered is…underwhelming. At least when compared to the VIP booth jammed with A-listers and unimaginably hot people that we’d all envisioned.
He reports that visually, not all the much is different. It’s not a separate area, rather your feed is the same, just with a few different colors. Other Selects show up and are labeled, but otherwise it’s basically your normal Tinder.
Aaand who are these other chosen ones? Well, brace yourself. First of all, there appear to be very few of them — not totally bizarre considering this is still a very experimental thing. But here’s the really bad news: according to McAlone, “Most of the Tinder Select members I’ve seen in the past worked in tech or in PR.” Ugh. Those are NOT the kind of celebrities that dreams are made of.
The real payoff with Tinder Select, it seems, is the juiced up algorithm, which results in you getting a lot more matches. McAlone says, “It feels like some giant Cupid is sitting on your side of the scale.”
Tinder, expectedly, has not commented on how it works, but McAlone suspects that your profile gets put at the top of the pile for people you’ve swiped right on.
Sure, a little boost sounds nice, and maybe someday it will be widely available to more than just a select few. But if you’ve been feeling left out, you can take comfort in the fact that it’s not like you’re standing outside the club while the party of the century goes on inside.
